[Take off your watch and relax at this travel destination] THE HIRAMATSU HOTELS & RESORTS Atami

This restaurant is run by Hiramatsu, the company behind Restaurant Hiramatsu, one of Japan's leading French restaurants. Following on from Kashikojima, it opened on the hills of Atami in October 2016. It is part hotel, part inn, part auberge, and promises a peaceful, relaxing, and extraordinary stay in a space that harmonizes a variety of Japanese and Western elements. Located within easy walking distance from the city center, it is said that many guests make spontaneous same-day reservations.

THE HIRAMATSU HOTELS

The main dining room is set in the dark. Candlelight on each table creates a warm atmosphere. Dinner consists of approximately eight French dishes, with sauces and presentation inspired by the ingredients of the day.

An inn that ticks away time with a scenic beauty that combines the past and present, Japanese and Western.

Once you pass through the trees, you'll see the elegant exterior of the inn, reminiscent of a long-established ryokan. Everyone will be left breathless as you take off your shoes and are guided to the check-in area. A complete change from the mountain scenery, the unobstructed view of Sagami Bay stretches out before your eyes, offering a spectacular view of Hatsushima, the Izu Peninsula, Oshima, Miura Peninsula, and the Boso Peninsula. The sky and sea change every moment, especially at dusk and as the sun rises, making it difficult to take your eyes off them. Gazing out from the bathtub, you'll feel as if you're immersed in the moment with your whole body. If you stay during or around a full moon, be sure to see the mysterious moon path that appears on the surface of the sea.

(Left) The view from the second-floor twin room at dusk. The bathtub is indoors, but the bed, bathtub, and terrace are arranged in a straight line, and when the window is opened, it can be enjoyed as a semi-open-air bath.
(Right) The sunrise seen from the lounge terrace. The sky is reflected in the water basin, which is designed to connect to the sea, creating an even more impressive sight.

There are only 13 guest rooms. The dining room, located just off the entrance, and the Matsu no Ma and Ume no Ma rooms on either side are built in the sukiya style by master carpenter Kinoshita Koichi. Below that, two floors of Western-style guest rooms have been added. All rooms offer views of the ocean and are equipped with hot spring baths from Atami's famous hot springs. The hotel is filled with artwork by Kataoka Tamako, who continued to paint Mount Fuji, paintings by Joan Miro, calligraphy and furnishings by Inoue Yuichi, and antiques and Scandinavian furniture scattered throughout, making it feel like a museum. With a fusion of Japanese and Western styles, it's easy to see why it's advertised as a "European inn."

As you sit down for dinner, a match is struck and the candles are lit. The magical atmosphere creates a magical feeling, almost like being transported to a magical world. The head chef, Kenya Miura, previously trained at Restaurant Hiramatsu Paris. He has been living in Atami for three years. Food, after all, is about people.
