Beyond the great success of Octo, Bulgari's true essence

Antoine Pin was appointed Managing Director of the Bvlgari Group Watch Division in September 2019. During his visit to Japan, we asked him about the future direction of the already hugely successful Octo collection.

Antoine Pin

Antoine Pin
Graduated from HEC Paris, France. He began his career at TAG Heuer in 1994. After working as a product manager, he integrated the marketing team at Boucheron in 1998 and also worked on jewelry. In 2002, he joined Zenith, part of the LVMH Group, and rebuilt the brand as Marketing Director at headquarters. His skills were highly praised, and he was promoted to Managing Director of LVMH Watches & Jewelry UK. He then served as General Manager of TAG Heuer Japan and Korea, before becoming Managing Director of Bulgari Greater China in 2014. He has held his current position since September 2019.

"Bvlgari has made many technological advancements over the past seven years. As a result, a lot is expected of Bvlgari, and we have a lot to do to meet those expectations. Octo is already a big collection. In addition to the original Octo, which was launched in 2012, there is the Octo Finissimo and now the Octo Roma. Of these, the Octo Finissimo has become very well-known. What makes Octo interesting is that it expresses both the Italian and Swiss spirit, and it also combines it with Swiss watchmaking know-how."

In other words, what can Bulgari, with its origins in Italy, bring to Swiss watchmaking? That is the question he is being asked. He continues with confidence.

"That is what design is all about. It is a philosophy that guides the creative force that drives it."

Indeed, Italy has been developing automobiles, furniture, and architecture for centuries, but if you think about it, Italy's strengths are even more apparent when it comes to aesthetics rather than functionality.

"Aesthetics are very important. This aesthetic sense is something that cannot be compromised, as it influences each individual's lifestyle. Finissimo is a symbol of this."

What is the position of Octo and Finissimo for Bulgari?

"It's true that Finissimo is driving the Octo collection, followed by Octo Roma. What's interesting is that Octo Roma is likely to attract more customers in the future. Octo Roma has great potential, so we will continue to work on and strengthen these three platforms, with Originale, Finissimo and Roma as our three pillars."

Pan clearly explains his strategy and vision, but at the same time, he also sees the essence of Bulgari. "In other words, we combine the best of Italy and Switzerland. In fact, we are a fusion. On the one hand, we are very Swiss, and on the other hand, very Italian. Having the strengths of each makes us unique, unlike any other brand. And we are very proud of that."
