Points to consider when choosing a Grand Seiko watch

Grand Seiko has developed numerous models since the release of the first model in 1960. Here we will explain the key points to keep in mind when choosing the watch that best suits you from the Grand Seiko lineup.

Movement type

Cal.9S85

One of the most representative movements of the 9S mechanical is the Cal. 9S85. It boasts a power reserve of approximately 55 hours while achieving a vibration frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour.

Grand Seiko movements come in three types: mechanical, quartz, and Spring Drive.

Grand Seiko's mechanical watches are primarily known as the 9S series. Because they are powered by a mainspring, they naturally do not require battery replacement, and as long as you perform regular maintenance, they can become a long-lasting companion.

Cal.9F86

Cal. 9F86 was released in 2018, marking the 25th anniversary of the birth of the 9F Quartz. It was the first GS Quartz watch to feature a GMT function, further enhancing its practicality.

The 9F series quartz movement is a condensed version of the tradition of Seiko, which sparked the quartz revolution with the Astron in 1969. It not only offers high precision but also excellent practicality.

Spring Drive is Seiko's proprietary movement, known as the 9R series. It can be described as a hybrid movement of mechanical and quartz, and is characterized by the smooth, flowing movement of the hands that is achieved by combining the two.

Cal.9R01

The hand-wound Cal. 9R01 movement is only found in a limited number of Spring Drive models. It boasts high accuracy of ±10 seconds per month and a power reserve of approximately 8 days.
