Seamaster

The 007 film series and wristwatches

When it comes to the watches worn by James Bond, the Omega Seamaster is currently the most popular, but in the past, various watch brands have been used as Bond watches.

Let's take a look at the evolution of Bond watches up until 1989, and the models that have been released since Omega was hired in 95.

Various brands have turned into Bond watches

In the first film, "Dr. No," released in 1962, the first Bond, played by Sean Connery, wore a Rolex Submariner (Ref. 6538).

In the 1977 film "The Spy Who Loved Me," the third Bond, played by Roger Moore, wore Seiko's quartz digital watch, the 0674 LC.

Bond wore Rolex and Seiko watches in many of his films, up until 1989's "License to Kill," in which Timothy Dalton played the fourth Bond.

Other watches that appeared included Breitling's Top Time in "Thunderball" (1965), Hamilton's Pulsar in "Live and Let Die" (1973), and Tag Heuer's Professional Night Dive in "The Living Daylights" (1987).

Omega's 007 Models

Seamaster Professional 300M

In the 1995 film "GoldenEye," in which Omega watches first appeared, Bond wore the quartz model "Seamaster Professional Diver 300M (Ref. 2541.80)."
Seamaster Professional

The Seamaster Professional Diver 300M (Ref. 2531.80) was used in three films: "Tomorrow Never Dies," "The World Is Not Enough," and "Die Another Day."

Since the 1995 film "GoldenEye," in which the fifth Bond, played by Pierce Brosnan, wore an Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M (Ref. 2541.80), the Seamaster has been used in all 007 series.

The fifth Bond wore the Seamaster Professional Diver 300M (Ref. 2531.80) in three films: "Tomorrow Never Dies" (released in 1997), "The World Is Not Enough" (released in 1999), and "Die Another Day" (released in 2002).

Seamaster Planet Ocean

In Casino Royale, where Daniel Craig first appeared as the sixth Bond, he wore the Seamaster Diver 300M and the Seamaster Planet Ocean (Ref. 2900.50.91) shown in the photo.

Daniel Craig, the sixth Bond, wore the Seamaster Diver 300M (Ref. 2220.80) and the Seamaster Planet Ocean (Ref. 2900.50.91) in the 2006 film Casino Royale.

Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M

The Seamaster Planet Ocean appeared in two consecutive films, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall. In the former, Bond wore the Ref. 2201.50 (left), and in the latter, he wore the Ref. 232.30.42.21.01.001 (right).

In the subsequent films, Quantum of Solace (released in 2008) and Skyfall (released in 2012), he wore the Seamaster Planet Ocean, and in Spectre (released in 2015), he wore the Seamaster 300 "Spectre" and the Seamaster Aqua Terra.

To celebrate OMEGA's longstanding partnership with James Bond, the boutique-exclusive Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond Platinum Numbered Edition was released in 2020.

Let's take a look at the latest James Bond special edition.

James Bond Numbered Edition Specifications

The Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond Platinum Numbered Edition, with a case diameter of 42mm, is a full-fledged diver's watch with a water resistance of 30 bar and a helium escape valve.

This Master Chronometer is equipped with the Cal. 8807 automatic movement with a coaxial escapement and boasts magnetic resistance of 15,000 gauss.

The 18K Sedna gold rotor and bridge, engraved with Geneva waves in arabesque, can be seen through the case back. The power reserve is approximately 55 hours.

The bezel is made of black ceramic, the dial is black enamel, and the case is made of "platinum gold," which is platinum 950 with 2% gold added.

The 007 logo is scattered throughout the bag.

The white enamel minute track does not appear to use any numerals at first glance, but features a small "007" logo at the 7 o'clock position.

The hands and indexes are made of 18K white gold, with the index at 12 o'clock bearing the Bond family crest. The dial features an 18K white gold spiral that resembles a gun barrel, with the central circle measuring 9mm in diameter, the same as the bullets Bond uses.

Furthermore, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," the secret number "50" is painted in luminous paint at the 10 o'clock position. This is a masterpiece full of details that will make any 007 fan smile.

Platinum three-dimensional diving scale

Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond Platinum Numbered Edition

The platinum diving scale has a three-dimensional finish, and special designs are used throughout, such as the dial design inspired by a gun barrel and the small 007 logo placed at the 7 o'clock position.

The diving scale on the black ceramic bezel is made of platinum, just like the case.

What's more, unlike a typical diving scale, the indexes are finished in a three-dimensional manner, a design known as "positive relief," which adds a touch of elegance to the unique charm of this watch.

Model worn in 2019 "No Time to Die"

Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition
Automatic (Cal. 8806). 35 jewels. 25,200 vph. Power reserve approximately 55 hours. Ti (diameter 42mm). Water resistant to 30 bar. Price: 1,089,000 yen (tax included).

The Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition is a special model with the exact same specifications as the watch worn by Bond in the upcoming film, No Time to Die, scheduled for release in 2021. Let's take a look at the specs, design, and material features.

007 Edition Specifications

The Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition, with a case diameter of 42mm, is a Master Chronometer that is water resistant to 30 bar, has a helium escape valve, and is highly anti-magnetic.

In terms of functionality, there is not much difference between this and the James Bond Platinum Numbered Edition released in 2020, but its appeal lies in its lightweight titanium body, which reflected the opinions of Daniel Craig and the filmmakers, and its military-style design.

The case is slightly thinner than the standard Seamaster Diver 300M, and the back cover is a solid case back with the 007 logo.

Features a broad arrow at 6 o'clock

At the 6 o'clock position on the dial is the "Broad Arrow," signifying that the watch is British official property, meaning it is designed for agents of MI6 (British Military Intelligence Division Six), the agency to which Bond belongs.

The case back is engraved with a number that resembles the control number given to watches issued by the British military, with the "62" at the end of the number representing the release year of the first James Bond film, "Dr. No."

Durable Grade 2 Titanium

Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition

The case back is engraved with the 007 logo and alphanumeric characters reminiscent of military watches: "0552" (the Navy's code number), "923 7697" (a diver's watch), "A" (for a screw-down crown), "007" (Bond's agent number), and "62" (the year the first film was released).

The case and adjustable mesh bracelet are made from robust yet lightweight grade 2 titanium.

Although it is lightweight, it is water resistant to 30 atmospheres and has a magnetic resistance of 15,000 gauss, making it a tough model that can be used in any situation.

Limited edition model commemorating the 50th anniversary of the film's release

Released in 1969, On Her Majesty's Secret Service was the only film in which George Lazenby played Bond. The Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond Limited Edition is a model created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the film's release.

Only 7007 pieces will be produced worldwide, with the limited edition number engraved on an 18K yellow gold plate on the side of the case.

Like the James Bond Platinum Numbered Edition released in 2020, the index at 10 o'clock has a hidden "50" that appears in the dark.

Distinctive gun barrel design

Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond Limited Edition

The black ceramic dial, with its gun barrel motif, contrasts beautifully with the 18K yellow gold hands and indexes. The date display, with only the number "7" in the same font as the 007 logo, also adds to the playful spirit of this special model.

The black ceramic dial features a laser-engraved gun barrel design and a spiral design that runs the length of the dial.

The number "7" that appears in the date display at 6 o'clock uses the same font as the 007 logo, and the index at 12 o'clock is inspired by the Bond family coat of arms, with the complete coat of arms depicted on the sapphire crystal case back.
