The Longines Legend Diver in a bronze case combines tradition and fashion

The "Age of Bronze" is well underway in the watch industry. A new model has been created that combines bronze, a material historically used for marine equipment due to its corrosion-resistant properties, with a diver's watch. The Longines Legend Diver is part of Longines' Heritage Collection, which has a retro look. The bronze case is paired with a green lacquer dial.

　The Longines Legend Diver, a reproduction of a diver's watch produced in 1960, was released in 2007. The 42mm case is 6mm larger than the original, but the design is faithfully reproduced, and it also shares the distinctive two crowns: one for winding the mainspring and setting the time, and the other for operating the rotating inner bezel.

　The two crowns and case back are screw-down, contributing to the watch's water resistance of 300m. The rotating inner bezel is located on the edge of the dial, but is essentially the same as a regular diver's bezel.

　By moving the start mark on the bezel to the position of the minute hand before diving, the diver can easily tell the dive time. Unlike a unidirectional rotating bezel, the inner bezel's rotation is locked by a screw-down crown, so it can also be moved clockwise when adjusting.

　Beneath the box-shaped sapphire crystal is a lacquered dial with a gradient effect, with a green center radiating outwards to a black periphery.

　Above it are the indexes, hour markers, and hands, all coated with Super-LumiNova. The Arabic numerals "12," "3," "6," and "9" are in block font for maximum legibility. Super-LumiNova is also used on the square and rectangular hour markers, as well as the hour and minute hands.

　Inside the case, under the titanium caseback with its diver's engraving, is the automatic caliber L888 (an improved version of the ETA A31.L01 produced exclusively for Longines), which has 21 jewels, beats at 25,200 vph, and has a power reserve of approximately 64 hours.

　The bronze case, which will develop its own unique patina depending on its exposure to water and storage, is paired with a brown leather strap with beige stitching, and a green nylon NATO strap is also available.
