TRUME L Collection -Break Line-

2020.12.04

Released in 2017, TRUME is an ambitious piece that incorporates Seiko Epson's unique technology into usable packaging. In 2020, a basic three-hand model that is self-powered without solar cells was added to the Break Line of the L Collection, which means "land." Despite its simple appearance, it incorporates Epson's advanced technology, just like existing models.

SWING GENERATOR - Self-powered

TRUME has been pushing the boundaries of what constitutes a watch with its unique designs. The Break Line of the new L Collection takes this approach even further, focusing on practicality. It features a swing generator that generates and stores electricity by winding the rotor. Simply swinging your wrist generates and stores electricity, eliminating the need to worry about running out of battery like with a regular quartz watch, and eliminating the need to expose the watch to light like with a solar-powered watch. Furthermore, a fully wound watch can run for up to 180 days, and even if the watch is stationary, it will start immediately if you shake it. Furthermore, because the rotation of the rotor is transmitted directly to the generator, winding efficiency is extremely high.

(Left) A major feature of this watch is the application of luminous paint, which is 2.5 times thicker than usual. This is a detail that is almost impossible to achieve with a solar-powered watch with a plastic dial.
(Right) Visible from the back cover is the swing generator, which generates electricity through the rotation of the rotor. Its extremely simple structure ensures extremely efficient winding.

Epson previously supplied this rotor-powered quartz movement on an OEM basis, but by further evolving this unique technology and significantly increasing the durability of the secondary battery that stores the generated electricity, Epson has incorporated it into TRUME's new product as a completely new swing generator.

The GMT function is also sophisticated. Most quartz watches with GMT functions do not allow the hour hand to be adjusted independently. In contrast, the BreakLine's GMT function allows you to adjust just the hour hand, just like expensive mechanical watches. By pulling out and turning the crown, you can fast-forward or backward the hour hand in one-hour increments. This is a feature that is definitely recommended for those traveling abroad.

(Left) The case, which embodies the concept of "generous toughness," is made of lightweight, corrosion-resistant titanium. The ceramic bezel, filled with luminous light, is fixed to a titanium ring for protection. Despite being priced at under 10 yen, the crystal is made of sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inside.
(Right) The sturdy strap and buckle give the impression of meticulous attention to detail. The buckle is large so that it will not be damaged even with tough use. The strap is made of high-strength Toray "GAIFU," and leather is wrapped around the edge to reinforce it and prevent fraying. The buckle also features blunt edges that symbolize the motif of "generous toughness."

This mechanism, which generates electricity using a rotor, also brings another benefit to this model. Unlike solar watches, it can be given a metal dial, which allows for an elaborate finish. The intricate dial, which is unusual for current quartz watches, is a benefit unique to the swing generator. The exterior also incorporates technology that is typical of TRUME. For example, the ceramic bezel. This is made by pouring in Luminous Light, a luminous paint, and then cutting it out to reveal the paint. The case is also made of titanium, which is lightweight and highly corrosion-resistant. In addition, a protective coating is applied to the surface to make it less susceptible to scratches, a meticulous touch.

Swing Generator

The swing generator generates electricity from the rotational motion of the rotor. The rotor's rotational motion is converted into electrical energy by a coil and charged into a secondary battery unit. Unlike standard automatic winding mechanisms, it winds directly, making it extremely efficient. Furthermore, advances in batteries have greatly improved the mechanical reliability of the new swing generator. The charge level can be checked with the second hand.

The Break Line from the L Collection is a very ambitious watch. However, what's truly surprising is its price: ¥9 for the titanium bracelet model and ¥8 for the nylon or leather strap model. This model is perfect for those looking for a rugged outdoor watch, as well as those who want a high-quality practical watch.

Because this model generates power through a rotor, there is no need to place a solar cell on the dial side. This allows for the use of an opaque metal dial. The benefit is the wide variety of dial variations. The vivid colors and texture unique to metal dials are the major attractions of this model. The thin case also makes it comfortable to wear on the wrist. Quartz movement. Power reserve up to approximately 180 days. Ti (52.9mm x 45.4mm, 12.4mm thick). Water resistant to 10 bar.
