Don't miss the slow flyback calendar

Voutilainen is a watch brand created by Finnish independent watchmaker Kari Voutilainen. His watches have the intricate finish you expect from an independent watchmaker, and are highly popular among enthusiasts. However, the company is also a manufacture, producing everything from the dial to the case and balance spring in-house.

Now, Voutilainen has released the new Vingt-8 217QRS Calendar Retrograde, a new model for 2020. This model allows you to enjoy not only the hand-guilloched dial and the chamfered movement, but also the movement's direct impulse escapement, as well as the slow flyback of the retrograde calendar, which is being used for the first time in this model.

Introduction model overview

Voutilainen "Vingt-8 217QRS Calendar Retrograde"
Manual winding. 39 jewels. 18,000 vph. Power reserve approximately 65 hours. 18KRG (diameter 39.0mm, thickness 11.5mm). Water resistant to 3 ATM. 14.8 million yen (excluding tax).

This is a new model released in 2020. Its greatest feature is the pointer-style calendar placed around the inside of the dial, which uses a retrograde system in which the hands fly back to the 1st after the 31st. Typically, a retrograde mechanism involves a spring that remains charged until the 31st, and then the power generated when the spring is released at the timing of changing the date on the 1st causes the hands to fly back. As a result, while most hands generally return to zero instantly, the flyback speed on this model has been adjusted so that they return slowly.
