Rado's True Square Forma Fantasma, created by a cutting-edge design duo

The True Square Forma Fantasma is a new watch unveiled at Rado Design Week, held online in early December 2020. The True Square collection includes several collaboration models, and this latest one is a collaboration with the Italian design duo, Forma Fantasma. It features an innovative design with a hole in the center of the high-tech ceramic that covers the dial, and is priced at 260,000 yen (excluding tax).

Abstract design inspired by pocket watches

　Swiss watchmaker Rado, part of the Swatch Group, is well known for giving designers the opportunity to reinterpret its iconic collections every year, and despite the impact of COVID-19, 2020 was no exception.

　During the four-day design week, which was themed around creation and design, the company unveiled a new interpretation of its iconic True Square watch. As the name suggests, this collection features a square case. The company asked several designers to reinterpret the watch, but the design duo Formafantasma, consisting of Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farzin, came up with a particularly original proposal.

　Based on the True Square model with a white high-tech ceramic case, this collaboration model is designed as a "closed" watch that is scratch-resistant and continues to shine even after long-term use. Its finish is reminiscent of a half-hunter pocket watch, which allows you to read the time through a central window even when the case is closed.

　In this version, the passing of time can only be seen through this small window, which is protected by sapphire crystal, which in turn encases the dial in high-tech ceramic.

　The bracelet is made of matte ceramic with a titanium folding clasp. The titanium case back is also hypoallergenic, just like ceramic. The mysterious True Square Forma Fantasma evokes a sense of the passage of time.
