Cal. 400 combines high magnetic resistance, high precision, and a long power reserve
Oris released the Cal. 400 in-house automatic movement in 2020. Its silicon escapement makes it highly resistant to magnetic fields of 2250 gauss, its long power reserve of approximately 120 hours, and its recommended overhaul interval of 10 years make it ideal for practical use.
The Aquis Date Caliber 400, which is equipped with the Cal. 400 movement that has been attracting attention from watch enthusiasts, has already appeared on webChronos! As always, we will be bringing you the sound and beautiful 4K video.
The movement of the silicon escapement, filmed at 120 frames per second, is a must-see. The 4K slow-motion footage allows you to enjoy the movement of the pallet-free anchor. The reason why Cal. 400 does not have pallet stones on the anchor is because both the anchor and the escape wheel are made of silicon.
Originally, pallet stones were used to prevent wear on the pallet fork and to fine-tune the strike of the pallet fork and escape wheel. However, silicon is resistant to wear and has such high processing precision that it does not require fine adjustments. Therefore, there is no need for pallet stones. As no pallet stones are installed, the weight of the escapement is reduced, which is thought to have a positive effect on the long power reserve and high accuracy of -3 to +5 seconds per day.
