Oris' vision for protecting the oceans
Oris' philosophy is "Go your own way." Founded in 1904, the company is an independent watch brand that continues to create watches that emphasize practicality. Using Swiss-made mechanical movements, the company has responded to user needs with a free-thinking approach while maintaining high quality standards. The diverse collections they offer have earned them the support of professionals in a wide range of fields, including motorsports, divers, and pilots.
This philosophy is not just applied to watchmaking, but also to environmental protection activities that transcend industry boundaries. Oris, which produces a variety of diver's watches, including the Aquis, has focused on the environmental crisis facing the ocean, where divers live. To tackle the environmental challenges facing the planet we live on, Oris has launched a variety of environmental protection activities and special models related to them. Oris' responsibility to protect the world's oceans is part of its vision of seeking change for the better.
In this feature article, we look back at Oris' environmental protection activities and past support models.
2010: Environmental protection activities begin
Oris began its environmental protection activities in 2010, and at the same time released a model to support environmental protection.
The Great Barrier Reef, located off the coast of northeastern Queensland, Australia, is home to the world's largest coral reef and is a World Heritage Site. However, due to the effects of global warming, coral bleaching is occurring at an unprecedented rate and scale. Taking this issue seriously, Oris has released the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition, limited to 1000 pieces. For each piece sold, Oris will donate 50 Swiss francs to the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS), an Australian marine wildlife conservation organization, in order to contribute to environmental conservation efforts.
The Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition features a blue dial with a wave pattern inspired by Australia's beautiful ocean, and boasts exceptional water resistance of 1000m. The indexes and hands are coated with orange Super-LumiNova, which is said to resemble coral, and the AMCS logo is prominently displayed on the case back, making this a truly special watch.

Automatic movement (Cal. ETA2836-2). 25 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 38 hours. Stainless steel (diameter 47mm, thickness 16.5mm). Water resistant to 1000m. Limited to 1000 pieces worldwide. Sold out (price at the time was 168,000 yen excluding tax).
2011: Launch of the Maldives Environmental Protection Model
Oris continued its activities for 11 years, following its first in 2010.
The Maldives, a beautiful island nation in the Indian Ocean, is a popular tourist destination, even among Japanese tourists. However, with an average elevation of just one meter above sea level, the islands of the Maldives are predicted to be submerged by around 2100 due to rising sea levels caused by global warming. To combat this threat, Oris has released a limited edition diver's watch, the Maldives Limited Edition, in a limited run of 2000 pieces.
For each watch sold, 20 Swiss francs will be donated to Blue Peace, an NGO working to protect the Maldives' environment. To enhance its practicality, the case and buckle are made of titanium, while the dial and bezel feature a chic blue reminiscent of the deep sea. The hands and indexes are coated with bright orange Super-LumiNova, evoking tropical fish and coral, and the case back features an illustration of manta rays, known for congregating there during the rainy season.

Automatic movement (Cal. Oris 643). 27 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 38 hours. Ti (diameter 43mm). Water resistant to 300m. Limited to 2000 pieces worldwide. Sold out (price at the time was 180,000 yen excluding tax).
2015: "Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition" to support AMCS activities
After a short hiatus, in 2015 Oris again partnered with the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS).
Founded in 1965 as a marine conservation organisation, AMCS celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015. Oris was once again chosen to support AMCS's mission to protect endangered species, uphold fishing laws and eliminate pollution from our oceans.
The Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition II, announced this way, contributes to environmental conservation efforts by donating a portion of the sales proceeds to AMCS. Based on the Aquis, it features a color scheme inspired by the ocean. Boasting a water resistance of 500m, the watch also features a day of the week display on the chapter ring in the center of the dial. The vibrant coral yellow of the dial ensures high visibility even underwater.

Automatic movement (Cal. Oris 735). 26 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 38 hours. Stainless steel (diameter 46mm). Water resistant to 500m. Limited to 2000 pieces worldwide. Sold out (price at the time was 240,000 yen excluding tax).
