The new Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, revived by Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, is the brand's first model equipped with a skeleton movement. However, the unique sales method allows buyers to choose from two different cases to house the movement.
The first of the two is the "FB 1RS.6," with an octagonal case made of carburized stainless steel with a Vickers hardness of 1200 Hv. The second is the "FB 2RS.2," with a round case made of rose gold. It is equipped with a regulator movement inspired by the marine chronometer "No. 8," manufactured in 1768. The hours are displayed in an aperture at 2 o'clock, and the minutes are displayed on a subdial at 12 o'clock.
It is also noteworthy that it has a center second hand, which is unusual for a tourbillon movement. Located at 10 o'clock is a power reserve indicator with a distinctive spiral spring. A fusee-and-chain mechanism is used to ensure a stable power supply. A total of 20 pieces will be produced for both cases.
