Whether it's a film or a watch, a masterpiece is born from that special artistic endeavor that captures the essence of a moment, evokes raw emotion, and shows us the world in a different light.
A tribute to human ingenuity, a masterpiece stands the test of time. In this spirit, Rolex has produced a short film showcasing the key elements of a single complex mechanism, with technicians, engineers and artisans all playing a vital role.
Rolex and the film industry
Rolex has had a decades-long relationship with the world of film, whether through its watches featured in iconic films or through programs providing artistic support to young directors.
The history of film and Rolex began spontaneously, when early actors began wearing Rolex watches, which bore powerful messages. The Rolex brand can be seen in some of Hollywood's classic films.

Thanks to this, Rolex has become inseparably linked to the so-called "seventh art" of film: Marlon Brando, who plays the legendary Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now, Paul Newman in The Hustlers, and Bill Paxton, who discovers the wreck in a submarine in Titanic, all wore Rolexes.
It's important to note that Rolex isn't featured in these films as a result of brand exposure, but rather as a way for filmmakers to give their characters a sense of individuality.
In 2002, Rolex began supporting young filmmakers with the Rolex Mentor and Project Arts Initiative. Martin Scorsese, known for his Rolex documentaries, as well as explorer and director James Cameron, serve as mentors in the program, bringing together promising talent from around the world in several fields with established international figures to collaborate on creative projects.

Alfonso Cuarón, Stephen Frears, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Mira Nair, Zhang Yimou and film editor Walter Murch have also served as mentors in the field of film, as has Spike Lee, now director and Jury President of the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
