Who are the Arnault family, founders of LVMH?
The Arnault family, headed by Bernard Jean-Étienne Arnault, is a French businessman known as one of the world's wealthiest families. Bernard Arnault is a major shareholder of LVMH and Christian Dior, and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO (PDG) of both companies.
It is true that there are some in the fashion industry who dislike his aggressive management style, as he actively acquires and controls luxury brands, but there is also no doubt that he has a knack for brand business.
The Arnault family is not a family that has been involved in the fashion business for generations; Bernard inherited the real estate business from his father. The reason he switched to the fashion business was when he left France, where socialist policies were in place, and moved to the United States, and during a conversation with a taxi driver, he predicted that fashion brands would become a big business. He is now known as one of the world's wealthiest people, and is estimated to be the third richest person in the world in Forbes' 2021 World's Billionaires list.
