The second generation of the Zeitwerk, which displays the time digitally using an ingenious mechanical mechanism, has been born. It is a true masterpiece that surpasses the first generation, incorporating recent technological advances and further refined.

Zeitwerk's long-awaited update!

　Walter Lange, who revived the brand in the 1990s, famously said, "Never stand still," and this has served as a guiding principle for product development. The new-generation Zeitwerk, announced in October 2022, is proof of this. It has been updated and evolved in every aspect, resulting in a stunning rebirth.

　The Zeitwerk, a mechanical digital watch with an extremely unique mechanism and design that displays the time using three instantly changing number discs, was born in 2009. The new model is the second generation, succeeding this first model.

　The evolution is first evident in the new movement, Caliber L043.6. The remontoire, which stores and suddenly releases the power for the rapid rotation of the numeral disc, is the same as the Caliber L043.1 installed in the first generation, but the new movement features twin barrels, doubling the power reserve to approximately 72 hours.

　A notable improvement in terms of operability is the new button at 4 o'clock. This button allows you to advance the hours separately from the minutes. It operates in the opposite way to the usual button, pressing it down and then releasing it, resulting in a smooth and comfortable operation. The ability to change the hours independently is also useful when adjusting for time zone differences while traveling.

　The twin barrels, approximately 72 hours of power reserve, and pusher function at 4 o'clock are the same as the caliber L043.8 of the Zeitwerk Date, which was released in 2019. There is no doubt that the technology used there has been utilized in this second generation.

　The case diameter remains the same as the first generation, at 41.9mm, but the thickness is now 12.2mm, about 0.4mm thinner. Even a slight difference makes a difference in the fit. This is likely the result of narrowing the clearances over successive models. Changes can also be seen on the dial, with the small seconds hand becoming slightly larger and the power reserve indicator now turning red once the remaining time reaches 12 hours. However, the unique design and strong, memorable impact remain unchanged. It is truly an exquisite technique.
