Two watches I want to keep until the end! I wear the Moritz Grossmann and Ralph Lauren on a daily basis [Chronos Editorial Team's Favorite Watches]

We introduce the watches that Kronos Japan's editorial staff truly love and wear. Hiroyuki Suzuki, a contributing editor for Kronos Japan who serves as editor-in-chief of the watch magazine Watch Global and also writes as a freelance writer for publications such as GQ and LEON, chose two watches from Moritz Grossmann and Ralph Lauren.

　Although I now work as a watch writer for a watch magazine called "Chronos Japan," my entry into the publishing industry came from a motorcycle magazine, and this hobby has continued uninterrupted since I was 16 years old.

　For some reason, I love old cars, and I search for old racing parts to restore them, sometimes cutting and pasting them together, and if I'm still not satisfied with the result, I take it apart and start again from scratch. That's why it takes an incredibly long time to finish a car in a way that I'm happy with.

　They say that a person's lifespan is 50 years, and now that I've finally reached that milestone (2022), I've decided to start preparing for the end of my motorcycle hobby. This doesn't mean getting rid of the bikes I own, but rather deciding which bike I'll ride at the end of my life.

　The bike is the same year I was born, so I'm not sure if it will run properly in its current state, and if it takes another 15 years to get it to the finish I like, I doubt I'll even be able to ride it anymore. What are you trying to say? Since I got such a bike this year, I haven't bought a new watch yet. Now I'm in trouble (lol).

　The watches I wear on a daily basis are the Moritz Grossmann Benu Japan Limited and the Ralph Lauren RL Automotive Chronometer 39mm. In recent years, especially, with fewer large-scale exhibitions, I have hardly worn any other watches than these two.

　These two watches are slightly similar in size (42mm and 39mm), but both share the same strap size of 20mm/18mm. Here's a small detail: I use crocodile straps for the IWC Portugieser on both watches. I like the texture of the Santoni, but more than that, the size is just right.

　For some reason, the buckle end of this strap is unusually short, while the tip end is long. This means that when you put it on your arm, the buckle shifts nicely to the outside of your wrist, which is just right for desk work.

　Hmm? Come to think of it, when did I buy these two? I guess it's about time to get them overhauled soon...

　When talking to people with a watch hobby, the killer word "finishing watch" often comes up, which can be roughly translated as an excuse or declaration of resolve to oneself (or one's family?) that "once I buy this, my hobby will be over."

　However, to me, a "final watch" is one that will remain in my wardrobe until the very end, and in that sense, either of these two is likely to be a strong contender. So I'll still be buying watches and motorcycles! Probably...
