Watch manufacturers from around the world unveiled new models at Watches & Wonders 2023. Watch experts selected the top five watches from the event. This time, the choices were made by Masaharu Nabata, editor-in-chief of the watch magazine Gressive. His picks include the Chopard LUC 1860 and Grand Seiko's Tentagraph.
1th place: Chopard "LUC 1860"
This simple three-hand model features a beautiful guilloched dial. The combination of a steel case, salmon pink dial, and gray grained calfskin strap creates a truly aesthetically pleasing watch.
Automatic movement (Cal. LUC 96.40-L). 29 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 65 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 36.50 mm, thickness 8.20 mm). Water resistant to 30 m. Price: 3,465,000 yen (tax included).
2nd place: Chronoswiss "Delphis Oracle"
I would like to sincerely celebrate the revival of my personal favorite Chronoswiss piece, the Delphys, in a completely new style to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the company's founding, featuring a curved guilloched dial decorated with fired enamel.
Automatic movement (Cal. C. 6004). 37 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 55 hours. 18KRG case (diameter 42.0 mm, thickness 14.5 mm). Water resistant to 10 bar. Limited to 50 pieces worldwide. Price to be determined.
3st Place: Grand Seiko "Evolution 9 Collection Tentagraph SLGC001"
This was Grand Seiko's first mechanical chronograph, so I was a bit surprised. It also boasts a high beat rate of 10 vibrations per second, water resistance to 10 bar, chronograph control by a column wheel, and power transmission by a vertical clutch, making it a world-class luxury chronograph in every respect.
Automatic movement (Cal. 9SC5). 60 jewels. 36,000 vph. Power reserve: approximately 72 hours. Bright titanium case (diameter 43.2mm, thickness 15.3mm). Water resistant to 10 bar. Price: 1,815,000 yen (tax included). Scheduled for release on June 9th.
