[Top 5 New Watches of 2023] The world's top watch journalist recommends chronographs! New releases selected by Gisbert L. Bruner

This project selects the top five new watches released in 2023. This time, the selection was made by Gisbert L. Bruner, one of the world's most renowned watch journalists. Four out of the five were chronographs, confirming that this year will be a bumper year for chronographs.

1th place: A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Chronograph

A. Lange & Söhne has announced that it will produce 100 stainless steel Odysseus Chronographs. The automatic movement, Caliber L156.1 DATOMATIC, measures 35mm in diameter and 8.4mm in height, and features a column wheel and vertical clutch.

New features include a dynamic zero reset for the chronograph seconds hand and the coaxial 60-minute counter. The automatic winding mechanism is unidirectional and has a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.

2st Place: Parmigiani Fleurier "Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante"

Following on from the release of the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante last year, Parmigiani Fleurier has now released another exclusive model with a split function: the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante, which allows you to measure the elapsed time from any given time using two pushers and two hands at the 8 and 10 o'clock positions on the case.

For example, you can set the end time of your parking time or the time to board a flight. After timing, you can instantly synchronize the two hands by pressing the pusher on the crown. The hour hand on the watch remains completely unaffected by these operations.

3rd Place: Montblanc "Montblanc 1858 Unveiled Secret Minerva Monopusher Chronograph Limited Edition"

Montblanc's "Montblanc 1858 Unveiled Secrets Minerva Monopusher Chronograph Limited Edition" features Minerva's Cal. MB M16.29 movement, which can be seen through the dial thanks to the watch's skilled craftsmanship.

To ensure that the movement can be reversed and the five hands for the time and counters still rotate clockwise, an additional gear chain is required, which comprises a total of 21 components, meaning that the Manufacture Cal. MB M16.26 requires 273 components.

4st Place: Grand Seiko "Evolution 9 Collection Tentagraph SLGC001"

Grand Seiko has announced the Evolution 9 Collection Tentagraph SLGC001, the first purely mechanical chronograph in the 63-year history of Grand Seiko.

Based on the Caliber 9SA5, an automatic movement with a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, the chronograph measures time down to a fraction of a second. Beneath the dial is a chronograph module developed in-house, equipped with a column wheel and vertical clutch. This new movement is named Caliber 9SC5.

5. Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona

Rolex has developed the chronograph movement Caliber 4130 into the new Caliber 4131. The difference from Caliber 4130 is the new oscillating weight with 22 small ball bearings and the well-known proprietary Chronogy escapement.

Also, for the first time in the history of the Professional model, the platinum-cased Ref. 126506 is fitted with a sapphire crystal case back, and the rotor is now made of 18K gold.
