The popular sports watch "Orient Mako" is now available in a limited edition gray dial and a compact regular model.

Orient has added two new models and three new additions to its popular sports watch, the Orient Mako. One is a limited edition model based on the current model, with a color scheme inspired by a beachside sunset. The other is two versions of the compact Orient Mako 40, with a case diameter reduced to 39.9mm.

Three new products have been added to the popular "Orient Mako" series both in Japan and overseas.

　Since the 1960s, Orient has specialized in diver-design watches. While they do not meet the requirements for a diver's watch as defined by ISO standards, their robust cases, reliable movements, sufficient water resistance for everyday use, and surprisingly reasonable prices considering their specifications have made them ideal for daily use and leisure activities, making them the choice of many watch enthusiasts both in Japan and overseas. One of their signature models is the Orient Mako, which debuted in 2004. On September 7, 2023, Orient will release two new models in three styles.

Limited edition model inspired by beachside sunsets

　One of the new models features a 41.8mm case and is a color variation of the current model. Its distinctive coloring is inspired by a beachside sunset. The dial features Arabic numerals, bullet-shaped indexes, and rose gold hands, while the bezel insert is gray and the tip of the second hand is orange.

　Its highly functional design includes a 20-atmosphere water-resistant case, a crown guard to protect the crown from impacts, and luminous indices and hands for enhanced visibility in the dark. The crystal is made of sapphire, providing excellent scratch resistance. This model is limited to 200 pieces in Japan, and the case back is engraved with the iconic dolphin and a serial number indicating its limited edition status.

　The movement is the in-house automatic Cal. F6922. While there are no outstanding specifications, it is a descendant of the 46 series, which Orient has been improving since 1971, and is therefore highly reliable.

The compact Orient Mako 40

　Another new release is the Orient Mako 40, which features a compact 39.9mm case. The 41.8mm case that is the mainstream in the Mako lineup is not too large for a sports watch with a rotating bezel. However, with the recent trend toward smaller diameters and the blurring of the lines between men's and women's watches, an expansion of products like this one that caters to a wider range of needs will be welcomed by many fans.

　This model is not just a reduction in case size. The design has been reconstructed with the themes of "compact," "simple," and "light." For example, by changing the indexes and hands to a bar type and limiting the calendar to just the date, the dial has been simplified and visibility has been improved. By eliminating the crown guard and unifying the bezel to stainless steel, the sporty impression has been toned down, making it easier to use not only for leisure but also for business, and increasing its versatility. Even with the change in case size, the high water resistance remains, and this model is water resistant to 20 bar.

　Two dial colors are available: the classic black of sports watches and a refreshing white. The movement is the Cal. F6722, which is part of Orient's proud 46 series.
