Grand Seiko's first mechanical chronograph, the Tentagraph, has won the Good Design Award 2023. The judges highly praised the watch for its reliability as a timekeeping tool, brought about by its high precision and long power reserve, as well as its subdued design suitable for everyday use.

　Grand Seiko's first mechanical chronograph, the Tentagraph, was unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2023. This watch, which generated a lot of buzz upon its release, has now been awarded the 2023 Good Design Award. The Good Design Award is Japan's only comprehensive design evaluation and recommendation system, sponsored by the Japan Design Promotion Organization (JDP). Grand Seiko has previously won the award with models such as the SLGH005 (white birch model) and the SBGR051.

　The name Tentagraph comes from "Ten beats per second, Three days, Automatic chronograph." In other words, it is an automatic chronograph with a 10 beats per second and a three-day power reserve. Until now, all chronographs in the Grand Seiko lineup have used Spring Drive movements. This model is based on the Caliber 9SA5, a mechanical automatic three-hand movement with a dual impulse escapement, and by adding a chronograph module to the dial side, it has been created as a chronograph with excellent basic performance, accurate measurement, operability, and durability.

　The case shape follows the Evolution 9 style, an evolution of the Seiko style, and embodies Japanese aesthetics and a view of nature, with a combination of light and shadow, flat and curved surfaces. The case is made of bright titanium, which enhances aesthetics and durability, while also achieving a lightweight and comfortable fit.

　The judges highly praised the watch for its reliability as a timekeeping tool, brought about by its high precision and long power reserve, as well as its subdued design suitable for everyday use. The designer commented that the case lines and dial design have enhanced its "long-lasting usability," "comfort in wearing," and "visibility."

　The Good Design Award-winning products will be exhibited at the GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2023, an award-winning exhibition to be held at Tokyo Midtown from Wednesday, October 25th to Sunday, October 29th, 2023.
