Responding to requests from enthusiasts and collectors, Capek has released a gold version of its best-selling Antarctic. To complement the gold case, this luxurious new model revives the lamé dial featured on the limited edition Antarctic Terre Adélie released in 2020.

Automatic movement (Cal. SXH5). 28 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 60 hours. 18KRG case (40.5mm diameter, 10.6mm thick). Water resistant to 120m. 10,978,000 yen (tax included). Rubber strap model is 6,600,000 yen (tax included). Limited to 100 pieces worldwide.

The Antarctic Mount Erebus model takes its name from Mount Erebus, the world's southernmost active volcano and one of the few continuously active volcanoes in the world, located on Ross Island in frozen Antarctica. The mountain was named after the British battleship HMS Elebus, commanded by Sir James Clark Ross, who discovered Ross Island in 1841. The ship's name comes from Erebus, the Greek god of darkness born from chaos.

A notable feature of the volcano is the presence of gold in its lava, which is released into the atmosphere in the form of tiny metal particles in the volcano's gases at an estimated rate of 80 grams per day, but which cannot be extracted.

The roots of the Antarctic collection can also be found in the Mount Erebus, with the lamé dial created for the first model, the limited-edition Antarctic Terre Adélie, launched in May 2020. Developed in collaboration with Capek's long-time manufacturing partner, Metalem, the dial is crafted using a special comb that creates a highly textured, satin-like effect. The deep blue dial, which complements the gold Mount Erebus case, is created using the CVD (chemical vapor deposition) technique.

The 40.5mm diameter, 10.6mm thick gold case shares all the design codes appreciated in the Antarctic steel case. Its flowing curves, meticulously sharpened edges, and exquisitely controlled balance of brushed and polished surfaces create a balanced overall composition. The 5N rose gold and 2N yellow gold cases are presented with rose gold or yellow gold bracelets, respectively.

Both models come with a rubber strap in a variety of colors. The 5N rose gold "Mount Erebus Deep Blue" is limited to 100 pieces and is available for pre-order at authorized Czapek retailers worldwide, the company's boutique in Geneva, and on czapek.com. The 2N yellow gold version is limited to 50 pieces and is available exclusively online at czapek.com. Sales are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2024.

In-house Caliber SXH5

Caliber SXH5

The Caliber SXH5 is the movement for the first model of the Antarctic, released in May 2020. Its unique structure, with seven skeletonized bridges, inspired by the 19th-century pocket watches made by François Czapek, makes it instantly recognizable as a Czapek watch.

Drawing on the best of both watchmaking's past and present, the movement features a free-sprung balance and an elegant, highly efficient micro-rotor crafted from recycled platinum. Fine watchmaking finishing combines hand-chamfered edges with cutting-edge laser engraving to create a beautiful play of contrasts: light and dark, textured and smooth, matte and refined.
