Another new collector's item in the wristwatch world has been resurrected: the Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick. Over 60 years ago, this historic model was used as a chronograph by the navy and medical services. Now, the classic design of yesteryear has been combined with modern, cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, resulting in a robust chronograph with a fascinating history that's perfect for everyday life and adventure.

　The 417 was developed with the goal of combining robustness, reliability, and legibility in a single wristwatch. Originally designed as a pilot's chronograph, versions with white dials and blue hands were also available for the Navy and medical services. Very few original historic models remain in existence worldwide, and they are known among collectors as Moby Dick. The few remaining examples of the historic 417 ES Moby Dick are now highly coveted vintage chronographs.

　The accompanying abbreviation "ES" previously stood for stainless steel. The stainless steel case now measures a modern 42mm in diameter. Despite the heavily domed sapphire crystal, the thickness remains just 13.3mm.

　The sharply cut, meticulously polished case flows seamlessly into the satin-brushed lugs. The fluted bezel, a typical Hanhart feature, rotates in both directions. The 12 o'clock position marker, usually painted red, is white on the Moby Dick, matching the dial color. Like the rest of the design, the dial details recall 1950s chronographs. The bicompax layout and lettering are based on the early 417, featuring numerals and fonts from that era.
