A new version of the Octopus diver's watch, which was added to Romain Jerome's SEA collection in 2012, was unveiled at the recent Baselworld.
A giant eight-legged octopus sits in the centre of the dial. This DLC-coated marine creature is centred around an onyx plate with brass-finished protrusions reminiscent of sea urchins, which are infused with Super-LumiNova. Blue resin is poured between the protrusions, creating an expressive depiction of the octopus floating in deep blue light and lurking in the depths of the ocean in dark places. In the West, the octopus is often depicted as a "deep-sea monster," and its mysterious appearance is well known for being depicted in numerous 19th-century novels.
The large 47mm diameter case is equipped with two symmetrical crowns: the left one for setting the time, and the right one for operating the unidirectional rotating inner bezel.
The outer bezel contains parts from the Titanic, representing the "monster that still inhabits the Titanic, now sunk in the deep sea." This is a witty piece that is unique to Romain Jerome.
