On March 30th, construction began on Audemars Piguet's new museum. The location, of course, is Le Brassus in the Vallée de Joux, where the company's headquarters are located. The project, which was selected from an architectural competition announced three years ago, features a spectacular structure in which the existing museum, housed in the building that has long been the Audemars family's residence, is connected by a spiral to an avant-garde structure covered in curved glass that appears to emerge from the ground.
The event was attended by many people, including Jasmine Audemars, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Audemars Piguet, CEO François-Henri Bennahmias, and key figures from Danish architectural firm BIG, the main partner in the project.
After the presentation, two watchmakers placed the 333 components that make up the Royal Oak into a waterproof case. The case will be sealed and buried beneath the building's foundations for future watchmakers. The installation of the curved glass walls, each weighing more than two tons, will be completed before winter arrives, and the museum's exhibition interior and restoration of the historic building will be completed within 2018.
