Fifty years after the launch of the first diver's watch made in Glashütte, the Glashütte Original manufacture is reviving this proud classic. The SeaQ is the legitimate successor to the legendary Spezimatic RP TS 200, while also boasting its own unique features. Like its historic predecessor, the previous steel model was only available with a closed case back, but now it is available with the option of a sapphire crystal case back. Furthermore, case backs are also available interchangeably for existing SeaQ owners who wish to view their watch's mechanical movement from the outside.

Wave design

Designing the SeaQ posed a challenge for Glashütte Original's designers and engineers. Exactly 50 years have passed since the Spezimatic RP TS 200 made history as the first German-made diver's watch, and market demands and production methods have changed dramatically. The SeaQ had to retain the character and design of its historic predecessor while combining the finest Glashütte craftsmanship with the durability and functionality expected of professional diving equipment. To that end, all initial SeaQ models featured closed casebacks. An engraving featuring a trident, a symbol of the sea, against a background of 20 waves, combined with Glashütte Original's double-G logo, signified water resistance to 20 bar and quality tested in accordance with the DIN 8306 and ISO 6425 diver's watch certification standards.

In 2022, Glashütte Original expanded the SeaQ line with a red gold version featuring a sapphire crystal case back, a first for the series.

Tradition and modernity

Since its launch in 2019, the SeaQ has garnered fans worldwide and is now available in six versions. While many collectors appreciate the SeaQ as an aesthetic reinterpretation of a classic, other watch enthusiasts also appreciate its modern, versatile functionality. In response to popular customer requests, Glashütte Original has implemented a sapphire crystal case back option for stainless steel models, as well as a two-tone version that brings out the SeaQ's inner beauty.

The in-house movement, Cal. 39-11, features the hallmarks of Glashütte's exquisite watchmaking techniques. The Glashütte ribbed three-quarter plate, swan-neck fine adjustment mechanism, and skeletonized rotor bearing the double G logo demonstrate the highest standards of craftsmanship in both technical and aesthetic terms. Existing SeaQ owners can also exchange the closed case back for a sapphire crystal case back. Of course, the watch remains water-resistant to 20 bar.

The SeaQ 39.5mm will be available with an optional sapphire crystal case back from all authorized Glashütte Original retailers from December 2024. From January 2025, Glashütte Original customer service will offer a paid case back exchange service for existing SeaQ models.
