Louis Moinet's Cosmic Art Collection will release the "Black Moon" in a limited edition of 60 pieces worldwide.

On December 1st, Louis Moinet released the "Black Moon," a limited edition of 60 pieces worldwide that uses lunar meteorites to indicate the full and new moons. The watch is equipped with a new, highly accurate caliber that rotates two types of lunar meteorites precisely, with an error of just one day every 122 years. Unlike conventional moon phase watches, two types of meteorites can be seen at any one time.

Equipped with a dome-shaped disk containing a lunar meteorite

　Louis Moinet's "Black Moon," unveiled at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024, was released on December 1st. Its most distinctive feature is the domed disc set with a marble-gray lunar meteorite (Ghadamis 005) and a black lunar meteorite (Dhofar 457) surrounded by red aluminum at the center of its aventurine dial, reminiscent of a starry sky. The domed disc rotates so that the marble-gray lunar meteorite reaches the 3 o'clock index on full moon days and the black lunar meteorite reaches the 12 o'clock index on new moon days.

　Unlike conventional moon phase displays, the lunar phase display is not obscured, allowing two types of meteorites to be viewed at any one time. The high-precision caliber, developed in collaboration with Concept, has 135 gears and a rotational period that is only accurate to one day every 122 years.

　Of the two lunar meteorites, the marble-gray Ghadamis 005 came from the area explored by the crew of the Apollo 16 mission. Characterized by its complex structure and marble-gray mottled pattern, it is considered by experts to be the most beautiful lunar meteorite.

　Dhofar 457 was discovered in the Dhofar Desert in Oman in 2001 by Luc Lavenne, a meteorite hunter who is a close friend of Louis Moinet CEO Jean-Marie Schaller. Its deep black color, derived from the lunar crater, is distinctive.

Indexes that appear to float in the starry sky

　The newly designed small seconds index, which displays only 30 seconds, is intriguing. Shaped like a compass needle, each tip marks 30 seconds. The index is fixed to the central ring and flange, appearing to float within the starry sky depicted by the aventurine dial. The 40.7mm case is crafted from lightweight grade 5 titanium, featuring both satin-brushed and polished finishes. The openworked lugs are connected to a strap that is integrated into the case. A domed sapphire crystal ensures excellent legibility from all angles.
