Tambour's new creations represent a challenge to new dimensions

Louis Vuitton has announced the Tambour Tyco Galactic Jacquemart, a watch themed around space exploration. With roots in the manufacture of travel bags, and with travel still a key theme for Louis Vuitton, this piece likens Louis Vuitton’s challenge to a new dimension in watchmaking to the exploration of the moon.

The dial was created using traditional techniques such as grand feu enamel, paillonné enamel, miniature enamel and engraving, and features an artificial satellite at 5 o'clock, an astronaut at 7 o'clock and the sun at 12 o'clock against the backdrop of the moon's surface and the Earth beyond.

Minute repeater with cathedral gongs

The most distinctive feature of this watch's mechanism is that it is a minute repeater watch. It is equipped with the hand-wound movement, Cal. LFTAU14.02, entirely designed and developed by Louis Vuitton's watchmaking atelier, La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, and features a cathedral gong, which produces a longer, deeper resonance than a typical gong. The case back allows you to view the gong, two strikers, the multi-layered, three-dimensionally arranged gear train, and the bridges, all of which are finished to a high standard. The crown is located at 12 o'clock, giving the watch a silhouette reminiscent of a pocket watch.

Astronauts come to life on the dial

When the minute repeater is activated, the astronaut moves his body and arms to maintain balance in order to plant a saffron flag on the moon's surface. In response, the satellite's solar panels and antennas move, and the sun also rotates. The speed of each movement is different, giving the piece a realistic and expressive appearance, which is a highlight of the piece.

The slide piece that operates the minute repeater is located at the 9 o'clock position and is decorated with a gradient of blue sapphires and topazes.
