In October 2025, the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain will move from 261 Boulevard Raspail to 2 Place du Palais Royal in the heart of Paris. The new location is housed in a Haussmann-style building designed by Jean Nouvel that formerly housed the Grands Magasins du Louvre. Comprised of five movable platforms, the new space is expected to expand the exhibition possibilities for all visual forms, including photography, film, performing arts, science, and crafts.
To celebrate the relocation and grand opening of the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, the "Exposition General" will run from Saturday, October 25, 2025 to Sunday, August 23, 2026. This exhibition will present an unprecedented display of carefully selected works from the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain collection. The exhibition will feature nearly 600 works by over 100 artists from around the world, including Claudia Andujar, James Turrell, Sara Gee, Olga de Amaral, Junya Ishigami, Solange Pessoa, David Lynch, Annette Messager, Cai Guo-Qiang, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and Sheri Samba.
The exhibition is divided into four themes: "Machines d'architecture (Architectural Machines): A temporary architectural laboratory," "Être nature (Being Natural): Reflections on the living world and its conservation," "Making Things: An experimental space for materials and techniques," and "Un monde réel (The Real World): Exploring futuristic stories combining science, technology and fiction."
