The Edo Kiriko pattern is the "hemp leaf" pattern, an auspicious motif symbolizing growth and prosperity. Inside the case is a skeleton quartz movement that appears to be floating in the air.

Creating this balanced geometric pattern requires skilled techniques that maintain consistent line precision and depth, and Edo Kiriko has been designated a national traditional craft.
The Edo Kiriko for this piece was created by Hirota Glass, one of Tokyo's oldest glass manufacturers, founded in 1899. Based on valuable design materials passed down since the company's founding, the company is known for creating pieces that reflect a modern sensibility using the techniques of Edo Kiriko and glassblowing that have been passed down through the generations.
