Seiko has announced nine limited-edition models to commemorate its 145th anniversary. Each model is based on an iconic piece representing one of its six brands: Prospex, Astron, Presage, 5 Sports, Lukia, and Seiko Selection.
Edo purple, chosen as the theme color, is a traditional Japanese color that originated in the Edo period and has been passed down to the present day. In the limited edition model announced this time, it is seen as a color that symbolizes the tradition that has been passed down from Edo to Tokyo, and the creativity of Tokyo, which has always produced new value, and gold, which symbolizes success and prosperity, has been added as an accent.
Prospex introduces the "Alpinist," which traces its roots back to the "Laurel Alpinist" born in 1959, and the "Speedtimer," which inherits the design of the 1960s and 1970s. The former combines a classic design with a sophisticated purple dial, while the latter incorporates purple on the dial and part of the bezel.
The "Alpinist," a popular outdoor watch equipped with a simple compass, is given an even more elegant finish with its purple dial. It features an automatic movement (Cal. 6R55), 24 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour, and a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.
