Ball Watch was founded by Webster Clay Ball, who established the standards for railroad timekeeping in the United States in the 19th century. The founder's commitment to precise timekeeping has been passed down to the present day, even though the company's headquarters has been moved to Switzerland.
Ball Watch's high-spec entry-level model is the "Engineer" series, which boasts excellent shock and magnetic resistance. The "Engineer II Marvelite," due for release this spring, further enhances its magnetic resistance. By replacing the previously used permalloy magnetic resistant plate with a mu-metal plate that provides electromagnetic shielding, the magnetic resistance rating has been raised from 4800 A/m to 8 A/m. In an age where we are surrounded by computers and smartphones that generate strong magnetic fields, this model, offering such performance at such a low price, will be a valuable addition to any modern businessperson.
Another distinctive feature of this watch, as can be seen on the right side of the image, is the use of luminous "micro gas lights" on the tips of the hour and minute hands and on the 11 indexes. These are small glass tubes coated with fluorescent paint and filled with tritium gas, which interact to create a glow. This emits 70 times more light than conventional tritium-based luminous paints and continues to glow for over 10 years.
Up until now, the series has been available in four colors: black, silver, gray, and blue, but this time, to commemorate the birth of the "Engineer II Marvelite," a pure white model has been announced, limited to 100 pieces in Japan.
