FP Journe releases final version of Resonance with 24-hour dial

2018.12.14

FP Journe "Chronometer Resonance." (Left) Manual winding (Cal. 1499.3). 40 jewels. 21,600 vph. Power reserve approximately 40 hours. 18KRG (diameter 40mm, thickness 9mm). Price to be determined. (Right) Pt (diameter 40mm, thickness 9mm). Same below.

The Chronometer Résonance improves precision by resonating two balance wheels. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, FP Journe has released a limited edition of the same model. The case is made of platinum and 18KRG (6N) and comes in a single size with a 40mm diameter. Currently, it is only available at FP Journe boutiques (not available in Japanese boutiques), but from 2019 it will also be available at FP Journe retailers. François-Paul Journe says, "This is a limited-edition production run."

The difference from the existing model is the subdial at 9 o'clock. The third-generation Resonance has a 24-hour display on a disc, but the limited edition has been changed to a hands-type display like the first and second generations. FP Journe is currently developing a new Resonance, so this limited edition model will likely be the only fourth-generation Chronometer Resonance.

The Chronomètre Ésonance, released in 1999, is a watch that eliminates shocks that can degrade the accuracy of mechanical watches by creating a resonance phenomenon between the two balance wheels. François-Paul Journe studied the resonance phenomenon at Antide Janvier and spent approximately 15 years perfecting this mechanism. This model evolved into the second generation in 2004, with the movement changed to 18K gold, and in 2010, the third generation was released, featuring a disc-type second time zone. This model is the fourth generation.
