Seiko Watch exhibited Grand Seiko at Milan Design Week 2019, the world's largest design festival, held in Milan, Italy, from April 9th to 14th, 2019. Following on from 2018, this year marked the company's second appearance at the event, moving the venue to the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, a residential art museum near Via Montenapoleone, the heart of Milan's fashion district. The unique "Spring Drive" mechanism, with its smoothly moving second hand, showcased a novel approach to visualizing the ever-changing flow of time and its permanence. The installation embodied Grand Seiko's worldview, "THE NATURE OF TIME," which pursues the essence of time and reflects the unique Japanese sense of time that is close to nature.

Following on from last year, Toshiki Kiriyama of TRUNK Inc. will serve as producer for this year's exhibition, and the creators will be we+, a design studio active in a wide range of fields, and Shingo Abe, a CG director renowned for his highly narrative visual expression.

Spring Drive is an advanced spring-driven mechanism that achieves unprecedented precision, with accuracy of less than one second per day. After more than 20 years of development since its conception in 1999, it was born as a watch with an extremely energy-efficient design and a smoothly moving second hand. Since 2004, it has been installed in major Grand Seiko models as the engine, and has received high praise from around the world for its fusion of cutting-edge technology and meticulous Japanese craftsmanship.
