Ulysse Nardin, which has been actively involved in producing striking watches, such as the musical watch "Stranger" and the hour striker "Samurai," has now launched a new hour striker model, "Phantom," incorporating acoustic technology from French acoustic technology brand Devialet.

A striking watch incorporating technology from the acoustic brand Devialet
This model, named after Devialet's flagship product, the high-quality wireless speaker "Phantom," is equipped with a striking mechanism unparalleled in conventional striking watches.
In conventional striking mechanisms, the air vibrated by the hammer striking the gong resonates through various parts within the movement, but in the Phantom, the air vibrated by the gong is transmitted via a transmission arm to a membrane located on the bottom of the watch, causing it to vibrate and produce sound.
The vibration of the membrane at the base, which has a large surface area, moves more air than the movement, which has many components and a small air volume, resulting in a louder sound. This function can be likened to that of a cone-shaped loudspeaker. The case is also made of titanium, which resonates better than stainless steel or 18K gold, and the volume reaches a maximum of 85dB at a distance of 100mm.
The pattern on the dial is a Chladni figure, a visualization of the vibration waves of sound, and is the same design used on the protective cover of Devialet's Phantom speaker. Beneath this openwork pattern is a tinted glass that protects the movement.
By adapting speaker technology to a watch, the Hour Striker Phantom achieves unprecedented volume. While there may be many enthusiasts around the world who want to hear it for themselves, unfortunately, only 85 pieces will be sold worldwide, in honour of the volume.
