Seiko will release the "1965 Mechanical Divers Modern Design," a modern update of the first domestically produced diver's watch released in 1965. The release date is June 19, 2020, and it will be sold in limited quantities of 5500 units. In Japan, it will be sold exclusively at Seiko Boutiques, Seiko Watch Salons, and Seiko Global Brand Core Shops.
The most distinctive feature of this model is that it incorporates throughout the design of Japan's first diver's watch, which was released in 1965. The original is an important model as a milestone in history, but even before that, with its thick, angular indexes and hands and sharp case shape, it is a model that simply excels in design, and for that reason it has many fans.
Even though it is a modern design, it has not been overly modified, and it is clear that the watch has been updated while retaining the charm of the original. First, the case size has been slightly increased to 40.5mm, which is the standard size for modern sports watches. However, the bezel has also been made wider, which prevents it from feeling stretched out.
The dial color is blue-gray, the same as the Seiko Diver's Reissue Trilogy released around the same time, and combined with the yellow used for the second hand and the "DIVER'S 200m" inscription, it gives a sporty impression.
