A completely redesigned chronograph for true professionals

Breitling will release the Chronomat B01 42, a redesigned version of the company's beloved iconic Chronomat, released in 1984. There are seven variations: the standard model, one commemorative model for the partnership with Bentley, one partnership model with the Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force's aerobatic flying team, and one Japan-only model.

Chronomat B01 Chronograph 42 Bentley

The Chronomat B01 42 Bentley is a model commemorating the partnership with British car manufacturer Bentley. It features a green base color scheme with black subdials. The case back is engraved with "BENTLEY." Reference number AB01343A1L1A1. Automatic (Cal. 01). 47 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 70 hours. Stainless steel (diameter 42.00 mm, thickness 15.10 mm). Water resistant to 200 m. 890,000 yen (excluding tax).

"Chronomat" was originally the name of a chronograph with a circular slide rule that Breitling released in 1942. However, the name actually means "calculating chronograph," and it would later evolve into another of the company's icons, the "Navitimer." It wasn't until the 1980s that the model that could be considered the prototype of the current "Chronomat" was released.

At the time, quartz watches were at their height, and Breitling, like many other brands, was heavily influenced by them. It was during this time that the Italian Air Force's aerobatic flying team, the Frecce Tricolori, announced a public competition to create an official watch. To meet the demand, Breitling interviewed pilots and, incorporating their opinions, created an automatic mechanical chronograph. This model, successfully adopted as the official watch in 1983, successfully brought mechanical watches back to prominence. In 1984, it was released under the name "Chronomat," combining the dual meanings of "chronograph" and "automatic."

Chronomat B01 Chronograph 42 Frecce Tricolori Limited Edition

The Chronomat B01 42 Frecce Tricolori Limited Edition is a limited edition model for the Frecce Tricolori that sparked the introduction of the Chronomat. The team logo is placed at 12 o'clock instead of the brand logo. Ref. AB01344A1C1A1. Automatic (Cal. 01). 47 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 70 hours. Stainless steel (diameter 42.00 mm, thickness 15.10 mm). Water resistant to 200 m. Limited to 250 pieces worldwide. Price: 908,000 yen (excluding tax).

The model being released this time retains many of the original features. The rider tabs, which improve operability and protect the crystal, and the unique "Rouleaux" bracelet, which means "wrapped" in French, are prime examples. As the Chronomat is favored not only by pilots but also by many other professionals, the specifications are impeccable. The in-house developed "Caliber 01," which has COSC-certified chronometer technology, provides a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and boasts water resistance of 200 meters, sufficient for a modern sports watch.

The wide variety of options makes it easy to find the perfect watch for you. The stainless steel model is available with three dials: silver, copper, and blue, while the stainless steel and 18K red gold combination model is available with three dials: silver, blue, and anthracite. The 18K red gold model is also available with an anthracite dial. In addition to the two partnership models, the Chronomat B01 42 Bentley and the Chronomat B01 42 Frecce Tricolori Limited Edition, the Chronomat B01 42 Japan Edition is also an attractive addition.

The Chronomat, released in 1984, marked the revival of mechanical watches in the heyday of quartz watches. 1984 also marked the 100th anniversary of the company's founding.
