Abraham-Louis Breguet, who invented the tourbillon in 1795, applied for a patent to the French Ministry of the Interior and received it on June 26, 1801. Breguet, which considers itself the guardian of this tourbillon, one of the greatest inventions in the history of watchmaking, has designated June 26 as Tourbillon Day, marking the brand's anniversary. To coincide with this, a two-week promotion titled "Breguet Tourbillon Day" will be held at four of its directly operated boutiques in Japan.

One of the greatest legacies left by Abraham-Louis Breguet is the tourbillon, developed as a mechanism to reliably improve the accuracy of pocket watches. This mechanism reduces the vertical position error caused by the pull of gravity on the balance and escape wheel (regulating escapement), which control the accuracy of a watch. By placing the entire regulating escapement in a carriage and rotating it once every minute, four minutes, or six minutes, the effect of gravity could theoretically be canceled out.
When gravity is applied unevenly depending on the position of the watch, it disrupts the regular movement of the balance and affects accuracy. However, adjusting accuracy based on the position of the watch is still difficult. Therefore, Breguet came up with the idea of canceling out the effects of gravity by forcibly rotating the regulating escapement itself, including the balance. Breguet himself only produced 35 tourbillons. However, Breguet continued to produce tourbillons thereafter, and is still considered a leader in tourbillons today.

The store will offer a wide selection of tourbillon collections, with staff providing detailed explanations of the unique complications and their appeal. Visitors will also be able to see the new 2020 tourbillons early. Additionally, the Breguet Boutique Hankyu Umeda Main Store will be hosting a special Breguet exhibition on the history and modern day of tourbillons in the watch promotion space on the 6th floor from Wednesday, June 24th to Tuesday, July 14th.
