A new addition to the Globe-Trotter lineup, launched by Arnold & Son in 2018, is the Globe-Trotter Night. As the name suggests, this model embodies the theme of night, creating a more dreamy look.
The central hemisphere and the bridge that crosses the dial indicate that this watch is more than just a worldtimer. Its hairline-finished silver dial and red-painted hour and minute hands demonstrate that practicality has also been taken into consideration. Automatic (Cal. A&S6022). 29 jewels. 28,800 vph. The most distinctive feature of the Globe-Trotter is its 3D worldtimer display. The central hemisphere depicts the Northern Hemisphere, which rotates once every 24 hours around the North Pole. The outer sapphire crystal disc, numbered 1 through 24, allows users to visually see the time in countries in the Northern Hemisphere.
The dial itself is not only unique in its expression, but also in its craftsmanship. The land is depicted in three dimensions through etching, while the sea is hand-lacquered. Furthermore, scattered silver 950 represents the lights of the city, highlighting the theme of this piece: "night."
Although the hemisphere of the globe takes up most of the dial, the watch's legibility has also been taken into consideration. The two hands extending from below the northern hemisphere are the hour and minute hands. Both have been meticulously polished to a high shine and then painted red, successfully enhancing legibility while blending in with the overall balance.
Another concern with this type of watch is ease of use. The crown's first position winds the mainspring, the second position adjusts the hour hand independently in one-hour increments, and the third position adjusts the hour and minute hands in conjunction with the time in the Northern Hemisphere. When traveling abroad, you can quickly set the time to the local time by adjusting only the hour hand in the second position.
