Ulysse Nardin launches the DiverNet watch, made from 100% recycled fishing nets

Ulysse Nardin is committed to researching and developing solutions to the growing threat of plastic pollution in our oceans. The brand has established a research department dedicated to studying materials derived from the ocean, focusing in particular on the properties of oyster shells, algae, marine PET (plastic bottles), and polyamide fishing nets. The newly announced "Diver Net" is a concept model featuring a case, caseband, caseback, and bezel made from recycled plastic, commissioned by FIL&FAB, France's first supplier of recycled fishing net plastic.

　FIL&FAB, a supplier of recycled fishing net plastic, collects unused nets from ports and transforms them into polyamide pellets, a highly abrasion-resistant material. This partner, an expert in industrial design and transformation, pays close attention to their products. In October 2020, Ulysse Nardin also took a step toward a more circular ocean economy by introducing the new R-Strap. The strap is made from PET plastic formerly floating in the ocean, which has been turned into thread by the Swiss company TIDE. This supplier has also stopped producing virgin plastic as a material, working to reuse the vast resources already in existence.

Changed sapphire glass to transparent ceramic glass

In its quest for environmentally friendly solutions, Ulysse Nardin has also switched from traditional sapphire crystal to clear ceramic glass machined in the Swiss Jura region, a material used to reduce the environmental impact by reducing the energy used in its production.

　The Diver Net is a concept watch that honors Ulysse Nardin's historic watchmaking traditions while exploring important environmentally friendly innovations. The 44mm case back reveals the UN-118 movement's silicium technology. This concept diver's watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel, also crafted from recycled fishing nets. The crystal is transparent ceramic, rather than traditional sapphire. Acid green Super-LumiNova on the hour markers and hands ensures easy reading of the time in the dark. The dial, bezel, crown protector, and even the stitching on the recycled PET strap all incorporate green, a color evocative of nature.
