Baume & Mercier launches the "Baume" collection, which pursues minimalist design and eco-friendliness

In May 2020, it was announced that the watch brand BAUME would be integrated into Baume & Mercier as part of its collection. This time, Baume & Mercier has announced a new collection called "BAUME," including the limited edition automatic model "BAUME Ocean."

Affordable price range and sophisticated design

　Founded in 2018, Baume has been creating environmentally friendly watches. Featuring minimalist designs, the brand offers freely customizable models. It has also released numerous collaboration models. In May 2020, Baume merged with Baume & Mercier. While the concept remains the same, it was announced that the brand's watches would become part of the Baume & Mercier collection.

　The new collection, which has been added to Baume & Mercier, includes six minimalist quartz models and two new "Baume Ocean" models. The quartz models, available in two case sizes, 41mm and 35mm, feature an impressive crown at 12 o'clock, reminiscent of a pocket watch. The dial, which has ample white space thanks to the placement of small indexes on the edges, is accented by a date display at 6 o'clock.

　It's worth noting that all parts are recyclable and upcyclable. The straps are made from recycled materials such as RPET (recycled plastic). They also feature an interchangeable strap system that allows for easy replacement, allowing you to enjoy coordinating them with your watch. Baume Collection straps are available for purchase at the official online boutique. The hexagonal packaging is made from FSC-certified cardboard, which indicates that the product is made from wood from well-managed forests, and packaging is kept to a minimum to prevent resource waste.

Limited edition automatic watch "Baume Ocean"

　The "Baume Ocean" is the first model to be released since Baume was integrated into Baume & Mercier. It is also a collaboration model with Waste Free Oceans (WFO) and the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE, an NGO that tackles marine pollution. It features a case made from recycled plastic collected from the ocean and a "Seaqual Yarn" strap made from 100% recycled plastic.

　The anodized aluminum case is made of 80% recycled plastic by WFO and 20% glass fiber for durability. In order to create the limited edition case using upcycled materials, the company pursued the highest quality and durability, working in collaboration with WFO to select plastic fragments recovered from the ocean.

　The company's decision to set the price at around 170,000 yen reflects its desire to encourage more people to buy the watch and to think about the global environment. Five percent of the sales of this limited edition model and two percent of the sales of the entire Baume collection will be donated to the World Food Organization (WFO) and the Seaqual Initiative.
