Raymond Weil will release an upgraded version of the "Freelancer" full skeleton watch, featuring a movement in the traditional French color anthracite, in January 2021. This upgrade expands the scope from which the beautifully colored skeleton movement can be viewed.

Anthracite is a traditional French color, a dark gray that is close to black. Achieving this color is said to require delicate coloring techniques. To achieve this color on the movement, a platinum alloy coating technique called NAC finish was used. This cutting-edge technology was perfected in 2017 after three years of development by STS Saulcy Traitement de Surface, a Swiss surface treatment provider favored by luxury watchmakers.

The NAC finish, which has high malleability and adhesion, allowing for even and uniform application of color, is applied to the movement's base plate, bridges, and rotor, creating a deep, lustrous lacquer-like beauty. Each part is skeletonized, with the base plate and bridges featuring circular graining and the rotor featuring a hairline finish, expressing the tradition and innovation of Swiss watchmaking.
The watch features an anthracite-colored movement, a black PVD-coated stainless steel case, a see-through caseback with smoked sapphire crystal, and a black rubber strap with gray stitching, creating a sophisticated look with a single black and gray tone. The indices used in the previous model have been removed to allow for a clearer view of the beautifully colored movement. The minute markers on the flange, which combine Arabic numerals and bars, and the perforated rubber strap add energetic and sporty accents.
