Building on the success of the Quasar Light and Quasar Azure, Girard-Perregaux has introduced a new watch housed in a transparent sapphire crystal case and accented with red. The Quasar Infrared not only brings a vibrant hue, but also makes the invisible visible by transforming the bridges from merely technical elements into an integral part of the watch—a ground Girard-Perregaux pioneered in 1867 with its legendary Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges.

The meaning of quasars (quasi-stellar objects)

Quasars (quasi-stellar objects) are large, distant celestial objects that are extremely bright and emit a great deal of energy. When viewed through a telescope, they appear as star-like points of light. Their large proportions, shape, energy, remarkable rarity and play with light are what led Girard-Perregaux to name this series of models "Quasar." But why "Infrared"?

Infrared light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and is generally invisible to the naked eye. However, with the vibrant red color, Girard-Perregaux has made it visible. In the 19th century, Girard-Perregaux redefined movement bridges as aesthetic elements rather than merely technical components, and over the years, the manufacture has released numerous models that share the same characteristic of making the invisible visible.
Girard-Perregaux "Quasar Infrared"
Automatic (cal. GP03300-1058). 27 jewels. 21,600 vph. Power reserve approximately 60 hours. Sapphire crystal (diameter 46mm, thickness 15.25mm). Water resistant to 30m. 283,000 Swiss francs. Limited to one piece worldwide.

One of the Quasar Infrared's most striking features is its breathtaking transparency. Normally hidden components are freely visible, which forces every component to be perfectly displayed. The tourbillon is positioned at the bottom of the watch, making it appear as if it is floating.

Bridges made of sapphire crystal

Quasar Infrared

The tourbillon carriage, crafted from sapphire crystal, is lyre-shaped, a historic design dating back to the 19th century. The case is crafted from a single disc of sapphire crystal. Once shaped, the disc is ground and polished to achieve a uniform, smooth surface free of inclusions. This process alone requires hundreds of operations, spanning more than 200 hours, and employs techniques that have been honed over more than two centuries.
