Grand Seiko [New for 2021] "Spring Drive 8-Day Jewelry Watch" Inspired by the Mysterious Mishaka Pond

Grand Seiko has announced the Spring Drive 8 Days Jewelry Watch, a jewelry watch themed around Mishaka Pond in Okutateshina, Nagano Prefecture, as the second in the series of men's jewelry watches released last year, the first of its kind for the brand. Crafted with green mother-of-pearl, diamonds, and green garnets, this model, which expresses the pond reflecting the green of its trees, is limited to 15 pieces worldwide and will be released sequentially from May 21st.

　In 2020, Grand Seiko announced its first men's jewelry watch, the Spring Drive 8-Day Jewelry Watch. Following this model, which was inspired by the natural phenomenon of fine ice, also known as diamond dust, the second men's jewelry watch, released in February 2021, is a model inspired by Mishaka Pond in Okutateshina, Nagano Prefecture.

　Located in the mountains at an altitude of 1500 meters, Mishaka Pond is a quiet pond surrounded by larch forests. It is also known as the motif for the work "Green Echoes" by Kaii Higashiyama, a representative Japanese painter of the Showa era, and is a popular tourist destination. This model features a green mother-of-pearl dial, which represents the surface of Mishaka Pond, reflecting the green trees that Kaii Higashiyama also painted.

　The dial is surrounded by tapered baguette-cut diamonds and green garnets. A total of 60 diamonds and green garnets are set around them. The tapered baguette-cut green garnets also serve as indexes. Consideration has been given to practicality, with the stone at 12 o'clock being wider than the others to make the time easier to read.

　The case is made of platinum, and the crown is set with a brilliant-cut diamond. The movement is the caliber 9R01, crafted by Micro Artist Studio. Equipped with three barrels and Seiko's proprietary Spring Drive mechanism, this movement boasts a maximum power reserve of approximately 192 hours. The bridge is shaped like Mount Fuji, the ruby ​​represents the city lights, and the power reserve display is inspired by Lake Suwa, all of which represent the scenery of Suwa, the city where Spring Drive was born.

　The 2021 Spring Drive 8-Days Jewelry Watch, featuring the mystical Mishaka Pond as its motif, is a limited edition model commemorating Seiko's 140th anniversary and will be sold in a limited edition of 15 pieces worldwide. Advance sales at Grand Seiko boutiques are scheduled to begin on May 21st.
