The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe has a modern design

The watch salon at Iwataya Main Store, a department store located in Tenjin, Fukuoka, is holding a Blancpain fair from March 6th. There is also a campaign running where if you purchase a Blancpain watch during the period up until the 21st, you will receive a special gift. Blancpain was founded in 1735 by watchmaker Jean-Jacques Blancpain in the village of Villeret in the Swiss Jura region. With a history spanning more than 250 years, the company is a prestigious Swiss manufacture that has produced masterpieces such as the Fifty Fathoms, the ancestor of the modern diver's watch, and the Ladybird, a ladies' watch equipped with a small mechanical movement.

Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe

Blancpain "Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe"
Automatic winding (Cal. 1315). 35 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 120 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 43mm, thickness 13.4mm). Water resistant to 300m. 1,030,000 yen (excluding tax).

One of the recommendations from the Iwataya Main Store Watch Salon is the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe. The Fifty Fathoms, which created the prototype for modern diver's watches, was created based on a request from the French Navy's special diving forces. Its high water resistance, achieved through technology developed specifically for this model—a double-sealed crown and a split caseback—as well as excellent visibility during diving and a rotating bezel with a locking mechanism to prevent accidental operation, led to it being adopted by navies around the world.

This model is a revival of the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, released in 1956, as a variation of the Fifty Fathoms. Featuring a sunburst-finished meteor gray dial, the bezel features a ceramic insert and a liquid metal scale for increased wear resistance. Furthermore, the uniquely shaped hour and minute hands are coated with luminous paint to ensure visibility in the dark, making this a watch that combines modern design with the functionality of a diver's watch.
