Moritz Grossmann [2021 New Release] Releases the Brand's First Center Second "Central Second"

Moritz Grossmann has announced the "Central Seconds," the brand's first watch with a center second display function. The in-house manufactured hands, designed to match the shining dial with a radial sunray finish, are filled with hi-ceram resin containing luminous paint, improving visibility in the dark. While Moritz Grossmann's previous models displayed seconds on a sub-dial at 6 or 7 o'clock, the Central Seconds features a sophisticated long second hand in the center of the dial.

Luminous hands and blue dial filled with HighCeram resin

　The blue dial is contrasted by the striking white Arabic numerals and polished stainless steel hands. Filled with HiCeram resin, the hands glow green in the dark, allowing for clear reading of the time. The beautifully hand-finished, delicate seconds hand ticks smoothly around the center of the dial.

Salmon Dial

　Another variation of the Central Seconds is the salmon dial, limited to 25 pieces worldwide. The hand-finished and flame-tempered blue steel hands complement the sophisticated salmon-colored dial, creating a unique look. The Moritz Grossmann logo and the "Made in Germany" inscription, printed in black, harmonize with the hands and dial, further enhancing the watch's simple and classic look.

　Moritz Grossmann's designers devised a new central seconds caliber based on the core caliber 100.1. To center the second hand and drive it, the power of the mainspring is transmitted from the third wheel via an intermediate wheel to a newly designed central second wheel. To balance and harmonize the overall appearance of the movement, all movement parts were aligned to the same height. To achieve this, the thickness of the plate and ratchet wheel were adjusted individually.

　The highest level of craftsmanship is evident in each and every tooth of the ratchet wheel, which is generously chamfered and polished to a beautiful luster, and which also features a subtle sunburst finish.

　Unlike previous Grossmann movements, the Caliber 100.11 features a plate covering the crown wheel, a new, larger intermediate wheel next to the ratchet wheel, and the wheel for the central seconds hand has been hand-chamfered and meticulously polished.

　In keeping with Grossmann's service concept, a new wheel for the central seconds hand can be removed whenever necessary. A spring fits into a groove beneath the wheel, securing it in place and ensuring smooth, precise movement. This spring can be adjusted at any time, even when the movement is fully assembled, using a screw on the plate.

The crown and the button at 4 o'clock are made by Moritz Grossmann and feature a manual winding mechanism with pusher.

The second hand stops when you pull the crown, and starts moving when you press the pusher below the crown.

　The unique, in-house developed manual winding mechanism with pusher incorporates a mechanism for perfect time adjustment, eliminating the problems of foreign objects getting into the movement when the crown is pulled out and the hands moving unintentionally when the crown is pushed back in. When the crown is pulled out, the watch switches to time adjustment mode, stopping the movement. When released, the crown returns to its original position via spring force, but the time can be adjusted by turning the crown. To restart the watch, press the pusher at the 4 o'clock position, and the watch will return to winding mode.
