Sinn [2021 New Release] Flieger "358.SA.FLIEGER.DS" with Scratch Dial

The 358, which marks the origin of the pilot chronograph, has been joined by a new model featuring a dial that has been scratched by hand one by one. Each dial has a unique pattern, allowing you to enjoy a different look.

Special scratch dial

　A new model, the 358.SA.FLIEGER.DS, has been released from Sinn's pilot chronograph 358 series, featuring a special dial.

　The "358" series, released in 2011 to commemorate the brand's 50th anniversary, features a design reminiscent of the 1940s and is a collection that follows the origins of pilot chronographs. The case diameter of the company's popular "356" series has been increased from a compact 38.5mm to 42mm. The model name, "FLIEGER," is the German word for pilot.

　The most notable feature of this model is the scratched dial. Each dial is handcrafted, with scratches being added after the base color has been applied, so no two are exactly alike. Each watch incorporating this dial is truly one of a kind.

　This scratching process allows the dial's base material to capture the changing nuances of light, allowing it to show off a variety of different expressions depending on the light and darkness.The scales, numerals, and luminous paint are applied after the scratching process, so the visibility of the dial itself is not affected.

　The satin-finished stainless steel case incorporates Ar-Dehumidifying technology, and Sinn's highly practical technology is generously incorporated. The see-through case back allows you to see the Sellita automatic chronograph movement, SW500, in action.

About Ar Dry Technology

　Ar-Dehumidifying Technology is a proprietary Sinn technology that protects the inside of the case from moisture. The lubricating oil used in the movement can deteriorate due to water vapor diffusing inside the case, adversely affecting the accuracy of the watch. Sudden changes in external temperature can also cause the inside of the sapphire crystal to fog up.

　These problems were solved by three technological elements: dry capsule, protective gas, and EDR packing. The dry capsule contains a special desiccant inside a tiny capsule that absorbs water vapor and removes moisture from inside the case. Protective gas (a rare gas) is also sealed inside the case to prevent discharge corrosion, which causes deterioration of the lubricating oil. Finally, the EDR (Extra Diffusion Reduction) packing uses a special rubber called nitrile rubber (NBR) that reduces moisture penetration, minimizing the penetration of moisture into the case.

　Sinn watches equipped with this technology have a circular Ar mark engraved on the dial or case back (with some exceptions), and this model is no exception.
