A. Lange & Söhne [2021 New Model] The Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar Elegantly Incorporates a Complex Mechanism

The Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar, announced by A. Lange & Söhne at Watches & Wonders 2021, is, as the name suggests, a perpetual calendar incorporated into the existing Lange 1 model. Two versions with different atmospheres are available, and only 150 pieces of the version with an 18K white gold case will be produced.

A complex mechanism that inherits the design of the Lange 1

　A. Lange & Söhne has added a new model to the Lange 1 family, this timepiece featuring a perpetual calendar. The dial, featuring off-center displays such as the hour and minute display, moon phase, and oversized date, all based on the golden ratio, is a company icon that captivates the viewer. This model beautifully incorporates the complex mechanism of a perpetual calendar without disturbing that perfect balance.

　The company first featured this complication in the Langematik Perpetual, released in 2001. Since then, all models with a perpetual calendar have combined it with other complications such as a chronograph or tourbillon. The Lange 1 family saw the release of the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar in 2012. This marks the first Lange 1 to feature only a perpetual calendar.

　This timepiece is available in two color variations: the regular model with a gray solid silver dial and an 18K pink gold case, and a limited edition of 150 pieces with a solid pink gold dial and an 18K white gold case. The applied indexes and hands are made of the same material as the case, creating an overall harmonious color scheme.

A well-thought-out mechanism

　The automatic caliber L.021.3, the 67th in-house developed caliber, is based on the L.021.1 used in the Lange 1 Daymatic and is equipped with a newly developed automatic winding mechanism.

　The perpetual calendar display replaces the traditional 48-month wheel with a 12-month ring, a mechanism first used in the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar. The month indicator, located around the outer edge of the dial, and other instantaneous calendar displays require greater force to move. Once set, the timepiece will not need to be adjusted until 2100.

　In addition to the beauty of the dial side, the finish of the movement, visible through the caseback, is also stunning. The Glashütte stripes on the German silver train bridge, the hand-engraved balance cock, and the gold chatons secured with blued screws are A. Lange & Söhne's specialties. The movement is assembled twice, ensuring high quality and precision.
