Rolex [2021 New Model] Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona with Meteorite Dial

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is an overwhelmingly popular model, and in 2021, three new models with meteorite dials were added. The rare and difficult-to-treat metallic meteorite is engraved with a unique pattern on each individual watch.

　Rolex has announced three variations of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona with meteorite dials as part of its new lineup for 2021. The base model is the same as the current Daytona, but the combination of rare materials gives it a unique texture.

　The metallic meteorite that adorns this work is a meteorite that fell to Earth as an asteroid exploded hundreds or even billions of years ago. As it travels between planets, it cools by a few degrees Celsius every few hundred years, forming this material. It is composed primarily of iron and nickel, and develops a crystalline structure that cannot be reproduced on Earth. By cutting these large chunks into thin slices and subjecting them to chemical treatment, the unique internal structure becomes apparent.

　The pattern formed in this way, which fascinates mankind, is called the "Widmanstätten structure," and Rolex has actively used this material for its dials. Crafted with the cooperation of experts, fragments that reveal this beautiful structure are selected and used for the dial.

　Three different Cosmograph Daytonas showcase this precious material. The first features a black Cerachrom bezel, a white gold case, and a metal bracelet with a rubber-coated strap. The second features a yellow gold bezel, case, and bracelet. The third, like the first, is an Everose gold model with the entire watch.

　The robust Oyster bracelet is fitted with a Rolex-designed and patented Oysterlock clasp with safety catch, and is also equipped with an Easylink extension link, which allows the bracelet to be easily extended by approximately 5 mm for a comfortable fit.

　The movement used is the fully in-house developed Caliber 4130, an automatic movement with a highly accurate chronograph. All watches are manufactured to Rolex's own chronometer standards. The average daily rate is adjusted to within -2 to +2 seconds, meeting standards that are far stricter than those of the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute.
