Montblanc [New for 2021] "Montblanc Star Legacy Metamorphosis Limited Edition 8" with two switchable faces

Montblanc has announced the new Montblanc Star Legacy Metamorphosis Limited Edition, which will be sold in a limited edition of only eight pieces worldwide. The watch features a shutter mechanism on the dial, allowing you to switch between two different faces.

A transforming dial

Montblanc has announced the Montblanc Star Legacy Metamorphosis Limited Edition, a dazzling blue model, as a new addition to Watches & Wonders 2021. This model was first unveiled at SIHH in 2019, and the same model with a gray dial was sold in a limited run of eight pieces. This year, an additional variation has been added, and it features a navy blue dial, and like the previous model, will be sold in a limited run of eight pieces.

The Metamorphosis, on which this work is based, was released in 2010 and features a special mechanism that was developed over five years of technical development. Part of the dial housed in the distinctive teardrop case acts as a shutter, and by sliding a lever on the side of the case, the watch transforms from a standard time display into a chronograph. This unique mechanism was developed in collaboration with the technical capabilities of Minerva, a manufacture acquired by Montblanc in 2006, and continues to evolve today.

　The Montblanc Star Legacy Metamorphosis Limited Edition 8, a gray dial model first unveiled in 19, represents a further evolution of the Metamorphosis. Countless hours of prototyping led to the creation of the in-house MB M67.60 movement, comprised of 718 individual parts. Switching between the two faces involves over 320 interlocking components, all of which are operated by a lever on the side of the case, similar to the mechanism in a minute repeater.

　The dial of this model is navy blue, which complements the starry sky of the aventurine disc. It is set with rhodium-plated Arabic numerals and features a guilloched pattern in the center, giving the dial a unique look.
