Richard Mille is supporting the Swiss boat manufacturer SP80 in their latest attempt to break the world's fastest yacht record in 2022. North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT™), a global leader in prepreg materials, is also joining the effort by providing Carbon TPT® for the hull, allowing the team to begin the crucial construction phase of the yacht, which will enable it to achieve a speed of 150 km/h (80 knots) powered solely by wind.

Richard Mille has always been fascinated by speed, aeronautics and extreme development. When long-time partner NTPT™, which exclusively produces the Carbon TPT® for Richard Mille's watch cases, introduced this project to the brand, it was no surprise to support such an ambitious endeavor. Drawing a cross between boats, airplanes and Formula 1, the design studio has developed a special foil (hydrofoil) called the "Super Ventilator" that presses the yacht against the water's surface, ensuring stability at high speeds. This technology prevents cavitation, a phenomenon in which a sudden drop in pressure causes water to vaporize and inhibit performance. The studio has also filed a patent for a power management system that transfers the kite's thrust directly to the yacht's foil while maintaining stability at high speeds. This invention is sure to bring about a revolution.
