Richard Mille teams up with Swiss boat manufacturer SP80 to set new world record for fastest sailing yacht

Richard Mille is supporting the Swiss boat manufacturer SP80 in their latest attempt to break the world's fastest yacht record in 2022. North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT™), a global leader in prepreg materials, is also joining the effort by providing Carbon TPT® for the hull, allowing the team to begin the crucial construction phase of the yacht, which will enable it to achieve a speed of 150 km/h (80 knots) powered solely by wind.

　Drawing a cross between boats, airplanes and Formula 1, the design studio has developed a special foil (hydrofoil) called the "Super Ventilator" that presses the yacht against the water's surface, ensuring stability at high speeds. This technology prevents cavitation, a phenomenon in which a sudden drop in pressure causes water to vaporize and inhibit performance. The studio has also filed a patent for a power management system that transfers the kite's thrust directly to the yacht's foil while maintaining stability at high speeds.
