NAOYA HIDA & Co.'s latest creation is the "NH TYPE 3A," the first watch to feature functions other than hours, minutes, and seconds. A moon phase display reminiscent of pocket watches made in the 18th and 19th centuries is placed at the 6 o'clock position, and the watch condenses details into a modest 37mm size.

Manual winding (Cal. 3021LU). 18 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 45 hours. Stainless steel (diameter 37mm, thickness 10.7mm). Water resistant to 5 bar. Price: 264 million yen (tax included).
Extremely large moon phase
NAOYA HIDA & Co. has announced the "NH TYPE 3A" as its newest release for 2021. Founded in 2018 by Naoya Tobita, who has extensive experience in the watch and jewelry industry, the company is a new Japanese watch brand that produces a very limited number of luxury watches. Starting with the "NH TYPE 1" with a small seconds hand, the brand has produced the "NH TYPE 2" with a center seconds hand. Each model has undergone multiple improvements, with the model names updated in alphabetical order, and a limited number of around 10 pieces of each has been produced.
The newly announced "NH TYPE 3A" is the company's third model and the first to feature functions other than hours, minutes, and seconds. It features a simple structure with hour and minute hands plus a moon phase display, and details reminiscent of pocket watches made in the 18th and 19th centuries.

In addition, the 11 Roman numerals on the dial are also hand-engraved. As with previous models, synthetic lacquer (cashew) is poured into the engraved areas, creating a striking contrast with the finely blasted dial surface, creating a unique finish.

The blued steel hands are particularly eye-catching, with a very rounded shape, on a nickel silver dial that is nearly three times thicker than most watches. While hands are typically made by pressing, the hands on this watch are machined to give them a three-dimensional look, and are more than twice as thick as typical hands. Also noteworthy is the curved tip of the minute hand to improve visibility.
Craftsmanship condensed into a 37mm case
Compared to vintage watches, which typically have a diameter of 35mm or less, the slightly larger 37mm case is manufactured using the world's most advanced micromachining equipment. The form incorporates designs from watches made between the 1930s and 60s, and features a newly designed curved bezel. The solid caseback uses a snap fastening to reduce thickness.

The SUS904L stainless steel, which has been used in the company's previous watches and is also used in this model, is a highly corrosion-resistant material that is ideal for watch exteriors. However, due to its high cost and difficulty in processing, few manufacturers are actively adopting this material.
It is cut with a precision of just a few microns, allowing for the creation of complex shapes such as a stepped bezel and engraved logo.
A reeling feel that resonates with enthusiasts
The movement used in this model is based on the ETA7750 series, just like previous models, but with some unique customizations. The chronograph and automatic winding mechanism have been completely removed, and a new gear train bridge and locking mechanism have been installed. The locking mechanism is a backlash mechanism, allowing you to enjoy the winding feel with a solid click, just like a high-end vintage watch.

This model also uses the moon phase mechanism found in the ETA7751, which means the disc rotates once every 59 days and is adjusted by pulling the crown out one notch.
Alcantara strap
The strap that accompanies the classic-looking watch body is made by Atelier Jean Rousseau, a French leather goods manufacturer that produces many watch straps. The front is made of bright blue Alcantara and the back is made of beige calf leather, a texture that perfectly matches the soft feel of the watch body.

Only 5 to 10 units of the "NH TYPE 3A" will be produced depending on the order, and once the planned number of sales is exceeded, the model will be replaced by the improved "NH TYPE 3B," making it a rare model that is difficult to obtain.
Currently, there are very few opportunities to see the actual machine up close, but if you're interested, this is a must-see. It's also a good idea to regularly check the company's social media accounts, where beautiful photos are posted.
